Sonia Stokes Photography

I am a degree qualified nature and animal photographer based in Somerset. I have 10 years worth of photography experience where I have worked in portraiture, events, nature, animal and landscape photography. I have spent time honing my skills before deciding where I really wanted to take my photography.

I found nature and landscape photography a particular favourite of mine. I love the changing of colours and the details you can find in subjects that may otherwise be overlooked.

When I started photographing animals it was very much trial and error, for me the best way to try out a new type of photography is to just get stuck right in. This has resulted in some entertaining days with some very posey squirrels that then climbed up my leg!

I then went on to see what other types of animals I could photograph, which has led to quite a variety on my site, including: cheetahs. koala bears, seals, horses, otters, lizards, penguins, meerkats and many more!

When I originally started selling my photography work I only had a handful of prints ready to sell, which I initially sold on Ebay, thinking this was a great way to start out and reach a wide target audience. It didn’t take me long to come to the conclusion that Ebay wasn’t really right for me and my work, which is when I moved over to Etsy, as that site features many items from artists and photographers alike, I thought my work would fit right in.

I have recently moved everything over to my own website. I felt that I could offer more on my own site and wasn’t met with so many limitations when on another retailer’s sites. I also love being able to add my own personalisation to my website.

I now have nearly 300 products listed for sale (and counting) where I have expanded into printing on a variety of different products. These include a variety of different sized wall canvas’. Wooden and aluminium wall prints (which give a really high quality feel to the print). Slate prints, which are one of my favourite items that I sell due to the unique texture (although I am slightly biased).

I also have a range of gifts available which features ceramic desk prints, keyrings, photo magnets, bookmarks and mystery hampers. I won’t list all of my products here as I don’t want to just create a massive list, but look out for future blog posts that will go into more detail about specific product ranges.

A great feature I have added to my website is a points system, for every purchase you make you gain points which can then be used to get discounts and money off of future purchases. You can also gain more points by following my social media pages and by entering your birthday. The reason I have added this is because I know everyone has been through a difficult time recently, and I know anywhere that we can save a little bit of money really goes a long way.

I currently have my items printed externally, due to not having the facilities myself. So if you do require a larger quantity than I have in stock then please email me and I’ll let you know how long it will take to fulfil the order for you.

My plan for the future would be to print at least some of the items myself, in order to cut down on the amount of times things are posted back and forth, in a way to try and decrease my environmental impact any way I can. With that in mind I do everything I can to have my products printed locally, I also currently only post to the UK.

In 2019 I also started selling my work at pop up markets and fairs. I love being able to meet customers in person and it’s a perfect way for my customers to see and feel the items for yourselves, I know this can really help when trying to decide on online purchases. Currently due to Covid fairs aren’t back up and running just yet, hopefully they will be by the end of this year. As well as during the Christmas period markets do run throughout the year in different locations, check out my events page for updates on any fairs I will be attending.

If you’ve gotten this far I really appreciate the time you’ve taken to read about my business, I plan to do a couple of blog posts a month and I also continuously update my product ranges so you can either follow me on social media or subscribe to my newsletter (also sent out twice a month) to stay updated.

Thanks for reading my blog,
